Plate Readers Hit On Stolen Car, Nets Glock, 140 Grams Of Cannabis
A Chicago couple in a stolen Infinity face multiple felonies when a gun and cannabis were found in the car, Oak Lawn cops said.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police say its license plate readers helped locate a stolen vehicle and net a Glock and a large bag of cannabis last month.
Around 10:20 p.m. March 23, police received a hit from one of the village’s 42 Flock plate readers entering Oak Lawn westbound on 95th Street. Moments later, of K-9 officer was able to locate the car, a black Infinity that had been reported stolen the day before by Chicago police.
The unoccupied car was found in the Portillo’s parking lot at 95th Street and Pulaski Avenue. Other units arrived to check Portillo’s camera footage. A man, later identified as Brian Snyder, 23, captured him getting out of the Infinity’s driver’s door and entering the restaurant, police said.
A woman, later identified as was observed walking in the parking lot, police said. Both were taken into custody.

Officers spotted 23-year-old Breanna P. Smith, who was found in possession of a .40 caliber Glock 27, according to police. While searching the vehicle, officers said they discovered 140 grams of cannabis, a scale and baggies in the trunk.
Snyder, of Chicago, was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of more than 100 grams of cannabis, and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

Last year, the Oak Lawn Village Board approved the purchase of 42 Flock license plate readers, the largest suburban LPR system in Cook County. The motion-activated, solar-powered LPRs are designed to provide 24/7 monitoring of roadways, neighborhoods and business areas.
