Remembering Their Service: Oak Lawn Hosts Veterans Day Ceremony
Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 will lead the Village of Oak Lawn's Veterans Day ceremony this Friday, Nov. 11.

OAK LAWN, IL — Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220, will lead the Village of Oak Lawn's Veterans Day Observance starting at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will be held in front of the Veterans Memorial Wall behind the Oak Lawn Public Library at 9427 W. Raymond Ave.
Veterans, their families and residents are invited to attend the ceremony and thank a vet for their service. The ceremony will be attended by village officials, with Mayor Terry Vorderer, a Vietnam combat veteran. Local veterans organizations, including the Marine Corps League and the Swallow Cliff DAR. Invitations have been extended to the Disabled Veterans of America. American Legion Post 757 and the Purple Heart Veterans. The ceremony includes a performance by the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School choir.
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be distributing poppies made by disabled veterans. All proceeds will go back to the disabled veterans.

After the ceremony, everyone is invited back to Johnson-Phelps, 9514 S. 52nd Ave. (52nd Avenue and Yourell), for coffee and pastry. The OLHMS band will perform for the veterans.
