When a high school student-athlete sets goals, works hard, and follows through with a plan, good things can happen. This was the exact recipe for senior baseball player Joseph Virruso as he set a goal of playing the sport he loves at the next level.
As a result, he recently signed his letter of intent to continue his baseball playing career at South Suburban College after graduation.

“I’m really excited for him to continue playing baseball at the next level because it has been something he has been working toward for four years here,” said head baseball coach Bill Gerny.
He is a four-year starter in the outfield and certainly racked up his share of awards along the way. He hit .500 in the South Suburban Conference as a freshman and was selected as an all-conference player back in 2017. In 2018, he was honorable mention all-conference, and last year he was all-conference once again. He earned the Sportsmanship Award in 2019.
Virruso is the lead-off hitter and the starting right fielder. He will fill that role once again on the diamond this spring as the Spartans look to win their first-ever Illinois High School Association Regional Championship.
