Commissioners and consultants debated "middle housing," affordability, historic districts, and parking, while residents looked on. The hearing continues Oct. 15, when you'll have a chance to weigh in directly.

• Police seek info in I-290 shooting that closed westbound lanes Thursday night (chicagotribune.com) — An overnight shooting investigation on I-290 near Austin briefly shut down westbound lanes and an Oak Park ramp, but state police say no one was injured and traffic has since fully reopened. Oak Park police helped close the ramp while Illinois State Police gathered evidence. Investigators are asking anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage to contact them.

• HHS Announces Up to $27.8 Million for Falls Prevention (hhs.gov) — Oak Park-based AgeOptions will receive up to about $1.94 million from a new federal falls-prevention initiative, positioning local providers to expand programs that help older adults avoid injuries and stay independent. The broader $27.8 million HHS effort will fund screening, balance and strength classes, and home-safety support across several states, with AgeOptions leading work that could directly benefit seniors in and around Oak Park.
