Car Burglar And Associate Arrested For Federal Gun Crimes: Cops

Orland Park man accused of stealing guns from unlocked vehicles and selling them to another convicted felon both face federal charges.

ORLAND PARK, IL -- An Orland Park parolee who plucked a Smith and Wesson MP .380 pistol out of an unlocked car last November, is now facing federal felony charges for selling stolen firearms to another convicted felon 39-year-old Ronald Johnson, of Markham, police said. Luke Harr, 30, is charged with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm and two counts of being an armed career criminal. Johnson is also charged with two counts of illegal possession of a firearm and possession a firearm with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Harr was arrested on Nov. 3, 2017 after he allegedly burglarized vehicles in Orland Park’s Steeplechase subdivision while out on parole from a two-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections for possession of a controlled substance. Police said that Harr had a pistol in his possession at the time of his arrest, which was stolen from one of the burglarized vehicles. A week before his arrest, Orland Park police tied Harr to a rash of vehicle burglaries in the Brook Hill subdivision, including a vehicle that had nine firearms stolen from inside, according to the charges.

Several of the allegedly stolen firearms were found in Harr’s residence. Further investigation determined that Harr had sold additional firearms to fellow convicted felon Johnson, police said. Orland Park police worked in conjunction with Cook County Sheriff’s police, who located Johnson in Markham on Nov. 14, 2017. Police said Johnson had an unrelated firearm along with heroin and cocaine when he was taken into custody. Johnson was charged and Orland Park police referred the case to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms to review for federal charges. Both men were indicted in a federal court on June 21.
