Orland Park Cops Host 14.4-Mile Bike Ride For Special Olympics IL

Take a leisurely bike ride this Sunday, Aug. 26, through Orland Park and raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.

ORLAND PARK, IL --- The Orland Park Police Department's late summer bike ride to benefit Special Olympics Illinois returns Sunday, August 26 at 6:30 a.m. The ride begins and ends at Fattie’s Orland Park, 14420 John Humphrey Drive.

Pre-registration is available until Friday, August 24. Registration forms are available at the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, 14700 Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park; at the police station, 15100 S Ravinia Ave; and on the village's website.

"The police department bike ride is a great event. It's a beautiful ride through Orland Park and some of the forest preserves and it's for a great cause," said Orland Park Village Trustee Pat Gira, chair of the village's public safety committee.

The 14.4-mile course will travel through Orland Park and will then connect with the Tinley Creek Forest Preserve Trails. A water stop is held midway through the ride, which is not a race. Refreshments will be available and a complimentary breakfast buffet with soft drinks and coffee will be available at Fattie’s after the ride. All participants are expected to wear bicycle helmets.

"Each summer, people ask when the ride will be held because it's an annual favorite," Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy said. "It's not a race. It's leisurely paced and everyone remains together as a group.

Completed registration forms must be returned to the Orland Park Police Department, 15100 South Ravinia Avenue or to the village hall, 14700 South Ravinia Avenue. Cash, checks and credit cards may be used to register with checks made payable to Special Olympics Illinois.
