Pretty Crappy: Cops Say Harvey Woman Reached Into Stall and Snatched Wallet While Lady Was Relieving Herself in Orland Mall Restroom

The Harvey woman claimed she merely found a purse in the ladies' room.

A sticky-fingered Harvey woman reached into a ladies’ room stall and snatched away a wallet while its owner was relieving herself, police said.

Officers were sent to the Sears in the Orland Square Mall to sort out a dispute and found a 74-old-woman crying and 37-year-old Ivory Abbott of Harvey “screaming, ‘I didn’t steal s---’ and ‘I would have taken the whole purse if I was trying to steal,’” police said.

The older woman explained that “she was inside the stall using the bathroom while her purse was lying on the ground,” police said.

“She advised that while going to the bathroom, she observed what appeared to be a female/black hand reach underneath the stall and into her purse,” police said. “She stated that she observed her wallet, which contains her credit cards, was removed from the purse as well. She stated that she quickly finished going to the bathroom and exited the stall at which time she observed Ivory standing there.”

The older woman asked Abbott “what she did with her credit cards and Ivory became irate and exited the bathroom,” police said. Later, “Ivory began to make a scene and that was when store security intervened.”

While security was trying to get to the bottom of things, Abbott “removed herself from the area and re-entered the bathroom,” police said. “After a couple of seconds, Ivory exited the bathroom with (the woman’s) wallet and said, ‘Here it is, I thought I saw it next to the garbage cans,’ and handed (the woman) her wallet back.”

As officers were escorting Abbott to a store office, she “continued to yell about how she didn’t do anything wrong and that this was ‘bulls---,’” police said.

“Once in the office, Ivory settled down and (an officer) was able to get her side of the story,” police said. “Ivory stated that she entered the women’s bathroom and entered a stall. She stated that while she was in the stall, she observed a purse at which time she opened the door and was confronted by (a woman) who accused her of stealing her credit cards from her purse. Ivory then advised that she handed (the woman) her purse back from the stall and continued to use the bathroom.”

The older woman did not want to sign a complaint against Abbott but a Sears employee had her arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct, police said. Abbott also reportedly had a warrant out for her arrest on a traffic charge.
