Moraine Valley Board Filing Period Starts Dec. 10

Filing period for Moraine Valley board and other local races will begin Dec. 10 for the April 2019 consolidating election.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- Residents wishing to run for a seat on the Moraine Valley Community College Board of Trustees have from Dec. 10 to Dec. 17 to submit their filing petitions. There are three openings on the board for full terms of six years each, and another opening to fill a two-year term. Prospective candidates must live within the MVCC Dist. 524 boundaries.

The consolidated election will be held on April 2, 2019. Moraine Valley Community College District 524 covers 139 square miles and all or part of the following communities, including Alsip, Bedford Park, Blue Island, Bridgeview, Burbank, Calumet Park, Chicago Ridge, Crestwood, Evergreen Park, Forest View (part), Hickory Hills, Hometown, Justice, Merrionette Park, Oak Forest (part), Oak Lawn, Orland Hills, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Palos Hills, Palos Park, Robbins, Summit, Tinley Park (part), Willow Springs (part) and Worth.

The minimum number of signatures needed to get on the ballot is 5 percent of the voter turnout from the last Moraine Valley board trustee race. According to the Cook County Clerk’s Office, prospective candidates are advised to also file a statement of economic interest no later than 5 p.m. on the last day on which nomination papers may be filed for the office which the candidate is seeking. The date and time at which a nominating petition is deemed to have been filed is not changed if the receipt of economic interest is filed at a different date or time during the filing period. Forms are available on the county clerk’s website.

Nominating petitions may be filed with Sandra Wagner, secretary of the board, or her disnees Richard Hendricks, Dawn Fredrikson or Sandra Leonard, from 8:30 to 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10 through Monday, Dec. 17, in Building D, Room D215 (President's Office), 9000 West College Parkway, Palos Hills.
