ORLAND PARK, IL — The Village now owns a portion of the former Riviera Country Club property, with the aim of creating additional recreational and athletic options for residents in the area.

The Village said Wednesday that it has formally closed on the $2.2 million purchase of the property at 8801 W. 143rd St. The Village purchased the entire site excluding two existing businesses—Opa! Modern Greek Cuisine and Signature Barn Banquet Hall—which will continue operating, officials said.

Public Works crews have been onsite securing the grounds, locking entry points, installing surveillance cameras and addressing immediate safety issues, the Village sad.

Officials voted earlier this month in favor of the acquisition. The building has sat vacant since 2021, when the Village ordered it closed amid code violations.

"When the former Riviera Country Club property was put up for sale, several parties expressed interest in acquiring it for differing concepts, including a private community center and higher‑density residential," the Village said. "Recognizing a unique opportunity, the Village acted to align the site’s future with public, community‑serving uses, with a focus on expanding athletic and recreational opportunities for this area of Orland Park."

The Village said that in the coming months, it will launch a feasibility study to determine the best ways to provide additional recreation/athletic training opportunities for residents.

The Village said it plans to offer surveys, open houses and regular updates on any future uses for the property.
