Bond Reduced For Man Accused In Coach's Hit & Run Death

Amanda Stanton was struck and killed by a man police say was driving on a revoked license.

OSWEGO, IL — A Kendall County judge on Friday agreed to reduce the bond for an Aurora man accused in the hit and run death of an Oswego softball coach. Amanda Stanton, 26, is believed to have been hit late Saturday, June 23, or early Sunday, June 24, while walking in rural Kendall County.

Nehemiah Williams, 38, of Aurora, is charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving death and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver's license in Stanton's death.

Prosecutors have also alleged that Williams was not wearing required prescription glasses when he struck Stanton on a poorly lit road.

On Friday, Judge Robert Pilmer lowered Williams' bond from $1 million to $150,000, according to WSPY. That's higher than the $50,000 bond Williams' attorney had requested, arguing Williams is "not a flight risk."

In court Friday, Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis argued that Williams "has a history of not complying with the rules of the court," according to WSPY. Weis said Williams already has eight convictions for driving on a suspended license or no valid license and is currently on bond for a Kane County arrest for DUI and driving on a suspended license.

Stanton, of Lockport, served as the head varsity softball coach at Oswego High School.

In her honor, a scholarship has been created, to be awarded to an Oswego High School senior softball player each spring, the school announced. The recipient will be someone who "demonstrates outstanding character and leadership on and off the field." According to her obituary, Stanton was also a strategic math specialist at Jefferson Junior High School in Naperville, a 2014 graduate of Eastern Michigan University and a 2010 graduate of Lockport High School.
