OSWEGO, IL — A lightning strike caused a gas line fire late Tuesday night.

The Oswego Fire Protection District responded to a report of lines down in the area of Linden and Juniper Street in Oswego. Upon arrival, crews were met with a large fire ball coming from the ground near the intersection of Hemlock and Juniper Streets, according to a press release from the district. There were no exposures and the area was clear of hazards.
“It was quickly determined that this was a gas line break underground involving a fire,” the release said. “Nicor was immediately notified and responded. Oswego Fire Crews stayed on the scene.”

The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.
