Hayes's passenger ran from the car after it was pulled over, officials said. After a brief pursuit, deputies charged Dontrell L. Atkins, 23, of the 2800 block of Rebecca Court, Montgomery, with obstructing a peace officer.

During the stop, deputies searched the car "based on probable cause" and found a loaded firearm. Briars said the investigation into the gun remains ongoing.
