Oswego Man Wins Million Dollar Lottery

Oswego resident John Groth won a Lucky Day Lotto jackpot prize of $1,050,000 when his Quick Pick ticket matched all five numbers – 12 - 17 - 27 - 28 – 40 – in the Sunday, Aug. 9, evening drawing, according to a press release from the Illinois Lottery.

Groth buys a Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick ticket twice a week. He has lived in Oswego for nine years and was at home when he checked the winning Lucky Day Lotto numbers on the Illinois Lottery website, the release said.

“When I saw that my numbers matched, my heart started pounding and I had to sit down,” Groth said in the release.

He plans to pay bills and invest for retirement.

The winning ticket was purchased at Speedway, 4032 Route 34 in Oswego. The retailer received a bonus of $10,500, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.
