Oswego Storm Cleanup Continues: What You Need To Know

OSWEGO, IL — Cleanup efforts are continuing throughout this week following widespread storm damage that occurred on Memorial Day throughout the Village of Oswego.

Storms on Memorial Day weekend caused downed trees and localized flooding throughout Oswego. Public Works crews will be working extra shifts throughout this week to clear felled trees and debris, and the Village will be deploying additional equipment from assisting agencies.

Brush collection

Crews will be taking down damaged trees and collecting brush throughout the week. Because of the extensive damage in some parts of town, crews will concentrate on the hardest-hit areas first. The work is expected to continue through the following week, when regular brush collection is scheduled to resume. All Oswego residents should place their brush at the curb as they clean up from this weekend’s storms and crews will collect it over the next few weeks.

Roadway flooding

A streetsweeper is being deployed to conduct an additional sweep of roadways and gutters. With additional rain expected this week, residents can assist in preventing additional roadway flooding by using a rake or shovel to clear leaves from clogged storm drains. Pile excess leaves away from the street to prevent the clog from recurring. Leaves may be bagged and stickered for collection on your regular garbage day, or composted.

Felled trees

The Village cannot accept tree removal waste generated by a contractor. If you hire a tree service to remove a damaged or felled tree from your property, the contractor is required to haul any waste generated.

To report a damaged Village-owned tree, major flooding, or other issue, you have two options:

• The Village of Oswego’s Click N Fix app is available for iPhone and Android, or on the Village’s website. Visit www.oswegoil.org and click on Report A Problem. You’ll be prompted to enter the location and details about the issue, you can take a photo, and you can receive notification when the issue is resolved.
• To talk to a live person, call Public Works at 630-554-3242 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

More storms predicted this week

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for north central and northeast Illinois that predicts additional thunderstorms this evening with a possibility of additional hail, winds up to 60 m.p.h., and additional flooding. The most severe storms today are expected to stay south of I-80, however, residents should remain alert and check forecasts. Additional storms are expected on Thursday, and scattered showers and storms may occur throughout the week.

A flood warning is in effect for the area though Saturday, June 1.
