Retired Oswego Police Chief Hired As Inspector General For Kendall Sheriff
The Kendall County Sheriff's Office announced Jeff Burgner's hiring a month after he officially retired from the Oswego Police Department.

OSWEGO, IL — Recently retired Police Chief Jeff Burgner is switching gears to work for the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.
The agency announced Tuesday that Burgner was hired as its inspector general about a month after he retired from the Oswego Police Department.
Burgner retired June 13 after 27 years with the Oswego Police Department, the agency where he began his law enforcement career in 1996, Patch reported. He served in various roles, including patrol officer, sergeant and captain before he was promoted to the top position in 2014.

As inspector general, Burgner will act as the independent and impartial party responsible for conducting internal investigations, use of force and administrative reviews, and investigations of supervisory, professional and sworn staff members, according to a news release. He will also act as the auditing official for Kendall County.

Sheriff Dwight Baird said Burgner's investigative background "along with his integrity and high professional standards" will aptly suit the inspector general role to "ensure that we are accountable to the citizens we are sworn to serve."
"Building and maintaining public trust is a crucial component necessary for any law enforcement agency to be successful, and a key aspect of creating that trust is independent and impartial oversight, which this position provides," Baird said in a statement. "Jeff has worked with and knows the Kendall County community well, and I have no doubt he will continue to be a great asset to the residents of Kendall County moving forward."
