Accused Killer Wrongly Released From Jail Arrested in Georgia

Garrett Glover, 29, was found Friday night asleep on an apartment floor in an Atlanta suburb, the Cook County Sheriff's Office says.

LITHONIA, GA — An accused murder who was mistakenly released from jail is back in custody after he was arrested in an Atlanta suburb Friday night, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities discovered Garrett Glover, 29, in Lithonia, Georgia, sleeping on the apartment floor of a person believed to be a relative's girlfriend, a sheriff's statement said. A joint effort by the sheriff's office and the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Forces in Chicago and Georgia worked to apprehend the fugitive.

Glover had been in Cook County Jail for the past two years, held on charges from two separate incidents.

On Feb. 23, he was sentenced to four years in prison in the attempted armed robbery case. But instead of being returned to jail, where he still needed to be held on $2 million bail from the murder case, he was wrongly released from the Illinois Department of Corrections on Friday, the sheriff's office said.

An IDOC spokeswoman claimed the misaken released happened because Cook County failed to provide any paperwork or information about Glover’s murder case. But the sheriff's office called that explanation "absurd."

Although Glover was released Feb. 24, the mixup wasn't reported to the sheriff's office until Monday, Feb. 27.
