Teens Street Racing Leads To Crash, Passenger's Hospitalization: OPD
Two teenagers, an 18-year-old from Plainfield and a 16-year-old from Montgomery, were cited with reckless driving and street racing.
OSWEGO, IL — A street race between two local teens this weekend resulted in a 16-year-old passenger being hospitalized, according to police.
The two cars were driving south on Madison Street. The second car, listed as Unit 2 in Oswego police's preliminary report, was in the left turn lane while Unit 1 was in the right lane approaching Washington Street. At that intersection, the right lane becomes a turn-only lane, and the left lane continues south.
As Unit 1's lane ended, the driver — an 18-year-old Plainfield man — crashed into a light pole and swerved, hitting Unit 2 in the rear passenger side, spokesperson Cathy Nevara told Patch. The collision caused Unit 2, driven by a 16-year-old Montgomery boy, to lose control, hit a utility pole and crash into a fence on Van Buren Street, coming to a final resting place in the back yard, police said.

Nevara said witnesses reported hearing squealing tires and observed the cars trying to get around each other.
The passenger in the second car, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries.

Both drivers received citations following the incident. The Plainfield teen was cited for street racing and reckless driving, and the Montgomery boy was cited for no valid driver's license, street racing and reckless driving.
