Wheatland Presbyterian Announces Holy Week Schedule

Rev. Betty Weidert, of Oswego, is filling the pulpit on a temporary basis.

Wheatland Presbyterian Church has a announced its schedule for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

The commemoration of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection begins on Sunday, March 20 with Palm Sunday, where the church will remember Jesus’ “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, according to a press release from the church. A procession of palms by the children will take place at the beginning of Worship, which begins at 10 a.m.

A sermon titled “Aspiring To Be A Donkey” will be given by Rev. Betty Weidert.

Holy Week activities continue with Maundy Thursday. A light meal of soup and gluten-free bread will take place in the Fellowship Room at 6:30 p.m., with a celebration of The Lord’s Supper to follow.

A Tenebrae service will be held on Good Friday evening at 7 p.m. This service will include a dramatic reading of the Passion of Our Lord from the Gospel of Matthew, and the customary extinguishing of the light.

The Resurrection will be celebrated on Easter Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Worship will include a sermon titled “Because He Lives” based on the Gospel of John. The traditional Easter Egg Hunt in the historic church cemetery will follow shortly after Worship. All children are welcome to participate.

With the recent resignation of their pastor, Rev. Betty Weidert, recently retired from a church in IA and resident of Oswego, is filling the pulpit on a temporary basis.
