Chicago Man Shot by Palatine Police Charged With Attempted Murder
Michael Douglas is accused of trying to run down 2 officers while trying to escape during a drug investigation last week.

Palatine, IL—A Chicago man who was shot and wounded by a Palatine police officer during a drug investigation Thursday faces attempted murder and other charges, according to the department.
Michael Douglas, 26, of the 500 block of West Thomas Street, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault, as well as two counts of unlawful delivery of marijuana, one a felony and the other misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in court today to have his bail set.

Douglas was shot in the leg as he tried to run down two Palatine officers while fleeing a drug investigation at about 7:40 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Quentin Road, according to police. Police later apprehended Douglas in the 1400 block of Winslowe Drive, and he was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Douglas was released from the hospital and taken in to custody by police early Friday morning.

The officer who shot Douglas—a 10-year veteran of the Palatine department—also was taken to the hospital for observation per department policy, police say. He has since been released.
