ComEd Earns 2014 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award

ComEd has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency efforts.

The utility was commended for its continuous contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by delivering information, services and products to its customers to increase energy efficiency.

This is the sixth consecutive year ComEd’s Smart Ideas energy efficiency programs have been honored for its delivery of energy efficiency programs through comprehensive customer outreach, education and marketing programs. An ENERGY STAR partner since 1999, ComEd, along with sister Exelon company  BGE, based in Baltimore, was honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency at the EPA awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 2014.

Since launching Smart Ideas in 2008, ComEd has helped customers save more than $700 million on their electric bills and more than seven million megawatt hours of energy savings. This is equivalent to the energy required to power nearly 760,000 homes for one year. The programs offers a suite of energy saving options, including assessment services and rebates to switch to more energy-efficient equipment, from lighting to central air conditioners to more complex projects such as industrial improvements.

ENERGY STAR was introduced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency. Today, ENERGY STAR offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions to save energy, money, and help protect the environment for future generations. There are 16,000 organizations that are ENERGY STAR partners committed to improving the energy efficiency of products, homes, and buildings.
