GoFundMe Page Helps Disabled Son of Palatine Woman Killed in Fire Find New Home
Last week's blaze was caused by an improperly used space heater in the home.

PALATINE, IL — Investigators determined Monday that an improperly used space heater caused the fire Thursday night that led to the death of a 78-year-old Palatine woman and hurt her disabled son, according to the Daily Herald.
Palatine Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Gratzianna told the Herald that the blaze started because combustible materials were too close to a space heater in the home in the 300 block of Slade Street.
Firefighters were unable to save Hazel J. Keisler, who died from carbon monoxide toxicity and inhalation of products of combustion. Although crews were able to pull Keisler from the blaze at her home in the 300 block of Slade Street, paramedics were unable to resuscitate her at the scene.

Keisler's daughter has created a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and finding new living arrangements for her brother. The page was set up Friday, Nov. 11, and it has raised a little more than $1,000 toward its $10,000 goal.
"My mother's house burned and my mother was unable to get out and died in the house," the page states. "We are unable to fix the house for my disabled brother and pay for her funeral or burial."
