Palatine Police Blotter: Purse Stolen out of Shopping Cart

The following information was provided by the Palatine Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 2, 2012

A purse was stolen out of a shopping cart at Target, 679 East Dundee Road, at 1:55 p.m. The victim reported that she left her cart unattended while she was looking at something. The store’s lost-prevention service reviewed security camera footage and saw that a white female with brown hair took the purse out of the cart and carried it into the women’s restroom. The purse was found in the restroom, but the wallet and its contents were missing.

Stolen from a detached garage in the 800 block of West Poplar Street were a gas can valued at $5 and an air compressor and tools, both with an unknown value, sometime between May 3 at 7 p.m. and May 5 at 8:05 p.m. There were no signs of forced entry and the owner said the garage may have had a faulty locking mechanism on the door.

Stolen from beneath a trailer in a parking lot behind a business in the 500 block of South Vermont Street were 20 fence stakes valued at $50, 12 window bucks valued at $1200 and 30 foundation wall frames valued at $600, sometime between April 16 at 8 a.m. and April 30 at 5 p.m. The owner reported the items missing May 4 at 2:36 p.m.

Two trees in the 1000 block of North Smith Street at the Hamilton Resevoir had the bark removed from the bottom of their trunk with an unknown object sometime between April 1 and May 4 at 8:19 a.m. The trees were valued at $1200 and will have to be replaced. There were also several birdhouses throughout the park that were damaged.

Matthew M. Nolan, 28, of Palatine, was charged with DUI, disobeying a stop sign and expired registration after a traffic stop at southbound Plum Grove Road and Wood Street at 3:08 a.m. During the arrest at 3:22 a.m., Daniel W. Corbett, 30, of Chicago, was walking by and began to yell to the driver and got in the way of the police officer. He was arrested for obstructing a peace officer. There is no indication as to whether the two men knew each other.

Daniela Mendoza, 26, of Palatine was charged with DUI, DUI blood-alcohol level above .08, improper lane usage, no insurance and failure to wear seat belt after a traffic stop at northbound Rand Road at Route 53 at 3:59 a.m.

May 6, 2012

A black 2012 Chevy Impala was burglarized sometime between May 6 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 6:17 a.m. in the 400 block of West Center Street. The car was unlocked. Taken was a gray men’s jacket valued at $300, a wallet with a license and credit cards inside with an unknown value.
