Palatine Public Library District Director Announces Retirement

Susan Strunk, Director of the Palatine Public Library District, has announced that she will be retiring in August. Strunk, who has been at the Library since July 2007, is wrapping up a 26-year career in libraries. Before joining the Palatine Library she was on staff at Illinois public libraries in Downers Grove, Batavia and Naperville.

During her tenure, the Library District has undergone several renovations, moved a branch library, and experienced major growth related to technology and digital resources. “Leading this library has been equal parts fun and rolling up our sleeves,” said Strunk. “It is truly wonderful to see the variety of ways people in our communities use our resources and services as libraries continue to evolve.”

Board President Barbara Illian stated, “The Board of Library Trustees is grateful to Susan Strunk for her outstanding leadership in enhancing the events, services, materials and technology offered to our residents. We will miss her and wish her a long, happy, and healthy retirement.

The Board will begin the search for a new Director soon.

“It has been a privilege to work with the Board and Staff to serve our residents in Palatine and Hoffman Estates,” said Strunk. “It will not be easy to leave this library when August comes around, but I’m ready to see where the next path leads.”
