Palatine Ranked Among the Safest Cities in U.S.
NeighborhoodScout recently released its 100 Safest Cities list, ranking several suburban towns among the safest in the U.S.
NeighborhoodScout recently released its 2016 Safest Cities list, and, as has been the case in the past couple years, several suburban towns made the list. The list includes towns with a population of 25,000 or more, with three suburban communities breaking the top twenty: Lake in the Hills at No. 6, Bartlett at No. 8 and Buffalo Grove at No. 18. Ridgefield, Conn., was ranked as the No. 1 safest city in the U.S.
NeighborhoodScout looks at crime data based on the total number of crimes per 1,000 residents to determine its rankings. Crimes include burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, homicide, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. Data used for this research includes the number of crimes reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city and the population of each city.

- 32: Plainfield
- 35: Huntley
- 38: Mundelein
- 37: Glenview
- 56: Hanover Park
- 59: Palatine
- 66: Arlington Heights
- 69: Carol Stream
- 74: Northbrook
- 84: Mount Prospect
- 87: Elmhurst
- 90: Hoffman Estates
- 99: Highland Park
