Palatine Teen Sentenced For Gang-Related Shooting

After a plea deal with reduced charges, the 17-year-old, who was charged as an adult, will serve time.

PALATINE, IL — The Palatine teen charged in a 2017 shooting has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Diego Garcia-Cordero, 17, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to aggravated battery and discharging a firearm, according to the Daily Herald.

As a part of the plea deal, his three counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm were reduced. He was 16 at the time but charged as an adult.

Police responded to a report of gunfire at a condo on Randville Drive just before 11 a.m. on May 12, 2017. Officers found two boys with gunshot wounds to their legs that didn't appear to be life threatening.
