Should Christians Be Forced to Abandon God's Morality?

Whether it's adoption agencies being forced to shut down rather than give children to same-sex couples or Christian businesses and organizations being onerously fined for refusing to pay for abortion-inducing drugs, one thing is for sure; Christians are coming under increasing pressure from the law to abandon God's moral code and adopt a ‘new morality.’

We seem to have an epidemic of  sloppy thinking on this issue that, I believe, stems at least in part from our own morality as individuals.  My personal observation is that the typical American has simply invented his/her own moral code -- usually by picking and choosing what is most comfortable and socially acceptable. So whether the topic is abortion, euthanasia, sexual behavior, economics, pornography, etc. the average American seems to have a personal moral code based on nothing more solid than his/her own imagination. This is not a new phenomenon.  God described the children of Israel during the time of Judges like this: "In those days Israel had no king.  All the people did what seemed right in their own eyes."  Needless to say, this was not a compliment.

What is curious is that so many of these same people, who have invented their own moral code, feel perfectly free to judge those who get their morality from the Bible.  For instance, somehow,  the newly minted morality of LGBT and abortion rights activists' is thought to be superior to God’s morality.  Gay and abortion rights activists and their ‘allies’ have decided that they have the authority to dictate what is right in their own eyes--and not only for themselves, but for others.  Unfortunately, they have now gained enough political power to legislate their morality--and that is exactly what they are doing.   Therefore, Christian resistors are being targeted and punished with lawsuits and fines--thus eradicating precious religious freedom.  Is this really wise?

To think that the morality of LGBT and abortion rights activists is somehow superior to God’s morality as revealed in the Bible seems to me to be both absurd and frightening.  Unfortunately, absurdity is the motto of the day in 21st century America.  More and more Americans in positions of power seem to be answering the question, “Should Christians be forced to abandon Biblical morality?” with a resounding, “Yes!”  We are permitted to be Christians--but only in our own minds.  Our beliefs cannot be allowed to direct our actions.  Such a thing cannot be tolerated.

In the face of this assault, even the First Amendment is becoming nothing more than some words written on an old sheet of paper--to the detriment of us all...
