Terron Moving on to Lindenwood University – Belleville

Harper College baseball player Chuck Terron (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) had an outstanding sophomore season for the Hawks. The All-Conference and All-Region left fielder will continue his college baseball career in the fall at Lindenwood University – Belleville in Belleville, Illinois.
Terron will play for the Lynx, a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school and member of the American Midwest Conference, a 10-member conference. Lindenwood, which is located just outside of St. Louis, is coached by Logan Johnson, who just completed his fourth season as head baseball coach for the Lynx. The Lynx won 26 games in 2015 and play their home games at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, home of the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
He was drawn to the school not only by the beautiful ballpark but also the organized practices that coach Johnson and his staff ran.

“It’s nice and appealing and makes you feel comfortable. It’s a great program and they are getting better every year,” Terron said.
Terron’s journey with the Hawks started in the fall of 2013 as he came to the program from Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Georgia. As a freshman learning the ins and outs of college baseball, Terron hit .292 with 10 RBIs and 18 runs in 31 games.

“My freshman year, I knew what my role would be sophomore year,” Terron said. “In the offseason, I focused on improving my swing and being more explosive and powerful, and that helped with speed. I was also able to swing the better and faster and gained arm strength and power.”
He also credits Harper head coach Cliff Brown for encouraging him along the way. It was Brown, he said, that gave him confidence in his approach at the plate after Terron went 0-for-2 in the first game of a doubleheader against Waubonsee Community College last April 22. Terron hit the ball hard both times he made outs, but Brown encouraged him to keep the same focus. The next two games, Terron had five hits and became more of a mainstay in the lineup the rest of the year.
Terron’s hard work in the offseason paid off in his second year with the Hawks. As a sophomore, Terron garned Second Team All-Region honors as he hit a team-best .385 with a .443 OBP, one homer, 19 RBIs, 36 runs, 55 hits, nine doubles, two triples, and 22 stolen bases (11th in nation).
He also hit for an impressive .458 average in league play with nine RBIs, 17 runs, 33 hits, five doubles, two triples, 12 steals and a .513 OBP to earn First Team All-Conference distinction. Finally, Terron was named the Team MVP for 2015.
“He worked extremely hard, set goals, and made a tremendous improvement from his freshman to sophomore year,” said Harper head baseball coach Cliff Brown. “And it shows because he now has a chance to play at the next level.”
As a student, Terron was an N4C Academic All-Conference athlete in both his years at Harper College. At Lindenwood, he plans to major in Sports Management because he enjoys the business aspect of sports.
Reflecting on his Harper career the last two years, Terron is appreciative of the opportunities he had both as a student and baseball player. He also feels he learned the value of independence and responsibility by being over 750 miles from his home in Georgia.
“I’ll miss being able to put on the Harper uniform and play almost every single day.”
