PALOS, IL — It’s been quite a year, Palos folks. Before the final countdown, let’s take a look back at what made this year great, moving, tragic—just plain unforgettable.
- Disabled Veteran Beaten Outside of Own Home: Richard Jones asked a neighbor to slow down in a parking lot, and his wife said it led to a fight that left him bloodied on the ground. His attacked can be seen on tape standing over him, muttering how his elder had no respect for him. The injuries were so severe, police sought to have the charges upgraded. He has now been charged with a felony.
- Stagg High School Grad Shot to Death in Lakeview: A newly minted CPA, Kevin O’Malley was living his dream. The 25-year-old life was cut short May 30, after he was mugged for his cell phone. More than 1,000 people attended the wake and funeral for the “the type of person, once you were his friend, you were his friend for life.”
- Closure for Family Seeking Missing Son: Exhaustive search for 27-year-old Palos Park man John Cunningham Jr. ends with the discovery of his remains. Cunningham Jr., disappeared from his parents home in Palos Park on Oct. 30, 2014. He was the subject of an extensive air and ground search in the days following his disappearance.
- Granat Co-Defendants Due In Court for Parent Slay Case: Two of the four young men, who were all teens when charged in the brutal slayings of John and Maria Granat, were due back in court for a pretrial hearing in the nearly four-year-old case.
- 3 Women Charged in Palos Heights Massage Parlor Sting: A Chicago woman faces prostitution charges, and two other women were arrested for performing massages illegally in connection with a joint investigation by Palos Heights police and the vice unit of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office that looked into businesses violating the Massage Parlor Act.
- Bail Set at $130,000 for Accused Home Improvement Fraudster: Contractor charged in swindling a Palos Park couple out of thousands of dollars for home improvement work that was never performed.
- Stagg Grad Makes Craft Beer Dreams a Reality in the ‘Burbs: South suburban natives Julia and Patrick Bisch take their love of craft beer from city to suburb with retail store and tap room.
