Attempted Ruse Burglary Reported In Lemont: Cops

The offender entered the home, but was not able to steal any property, police said.​

LEMONT, IL — An attempted ruse burglary took place Wednesday in Lemont, police said. The offender approached an elderly person's home around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and said they were with the water department.

The offender entered the home, but was not able to steal any property, police said. Similar incidents also occurred in Palos Heights and Palos Hills. In two incidents which took place in Palos Heights, the offenders also posed as water department employees.

The Lemont Police Department reminded citizens to never allow unknown people into your homes, and dial 911 if you see suspicious activity.

"Please be aware there are crews out trying to take advantage of senior citizens and to always be cautious," the department said.
