It has been thought, for many years, that the "popular" kids are exempt from bullying. We encourage our children to be in the "popular" groups in the hopes that they will have more friends, more activities, more opportunities and less bullying. However, a new study, published just last week challenges that mentality. The study, published in the American Psychological Review, found that popularity may actually increase your child's propensity to be bullied.
The study found that most children used bullying to gain social standing and knock others out of the hierarchy of popularity.
