Living portrait of Walt Whitman emerges at Oct. 9 Summit program
A vivid living portrait of Walt Whitman will emerge in R.J. Lindsey’s portrayal of one of America’s greatest poet at The Summit of Uptown, Friday, Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. There is no charge the program, but reservations are required by Monday, Oct. 5, by calling 847-825-1161, ext. 129.
Beginning with several verses of “Leaves of Grass,” the program will also include Whitman’s stories as a wound dresser tending to the casualties that filled the Washington D.C. hospitals during the Civil War. It will conclude with a narration of the Lincoln’s assassination and a reading from Whitman’s most popular poem, “Oh, Captain, My Captain.”
A historical dramatist who uses extensive research, meticulous attention to detail and documented speeches, letters and anecdotes, Lindsey is a theatrical professional who has appeared on stage and television. His living history programs have been seen from Jerusalem to London, as well as at the Democratic National Convention.

Lindsey’s portrayal of Walt Whitman is just one of the variety of programs and activities presented by The Summit of Uptown. Parking is always available in the Uptown City garage across the street.
