📰 News we're reading

• Coroner identifies woman killed in South Peoria daytime shooting (wmbdradio.com) — South Peoria residents are learning more about Monday's deadly daytime shooting after the coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old Dionna Causey of Peoria. She was found shot in an SUV that crashed into the Da Catch business at Western and Howett, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them or leave anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers or tip411.

• Peoria County's lowest E15 gas price recorded at $4.59 for week ending Sept. 26 (peoriastandard.com) — Drivers in Peoria County are paying as little as $4.59 per gallon for E15 gas this week, with the countywide average at $4.61. Only two of 77 reported stations in the county currently offer E15, and prices reflect broader refinery outages and global oil tensions pushing fuel costs higher across Illinois and the Midwest.

• Worst to best: Peoria Area's 15 police and fire pension funds are $476.0 million short; Pekin firefighters fund is 44.2 percent funded (peoriastandard.com) — Police and firefighter pension funds across the Peoria area, including Peoria's own, are only 57.9% funded overall, leaving a $476 million gap that local property taxes must eventually cover. Peoria's police and fire funds face some of the largest shortfalls, and this new series will dig into each fund's finances, boards, and costs in more detail.
