• Commercial Street Criterium Will Bring Up To 500 Cyclists For Day Of Racing In Downtown Plainfield (patch.com) — Downtown Plainfield will host the third annual Commercial Street Criterium this Saturday, bringing up to 500 cyclists for a full day of racing and a community ride. Organizers are positioning the event as a signature Plainfield summer tradition, but residents should plan for extensive downtown road closures and congestion from morning through early evening while the course is active.
   

• D202's Homecoming Parade Will Be Road Trip-Themed This Year: Applications Open (patch.com) — Plainfield District 202 is gearing up for its 74th annual Homecoming Parade on Sept. 26, built around a fun road trip theme that invites creative, travel-inspired floats. Plainfield groups can apply now for one of 80 parade spots, while families can also mark the scheduled homecoming games and dances at all four Plainfield high schools.
   

• Plainfield's Bags of Hope Marks 10 Years, Honors Late Champion Tom Hernandez (thetimesweekly.com) — A Plainfield-based backpack food program serving District 202 students is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Sept. 18 with a ticketed event that will honor the late Tom Hernandez. Bags of Hope, now operating out of Plainfield Academy, delivers weekly food to hundreds of local students and needs more Wednesday volunteers and community support to keep up with demand.
