Call to Action: Mayor John Argoudelis

I call on you to take action against the mask mandate from Governor Pritzker, follow the lead of Mayor Craig Johnson, Elk Grove Village and drop the mask mandate for Plainfield. This would not be a ban on masks, it would simply free residents and businesses and make masks optional for those who feel they need them.

By all available metrics, Plainfield's counties and zip codes are remarkably stable and have been trending down for nearly 2 months. This will spike again as the weather gets colder and more people congregate indoors but the spikes will be less an less significant as people contract Covid (98%+ survival and extremely low likelihood of adverse reactions) and gain natural immunity and/or are vaccinated. People need to have the freedom to decide for themselves.

If you are still in favor of current mask mandates, you have to ask yourself - what is the end game? We have had restrictions tightened and loosened over the last 18 months and this has proven nothing more than the fact that this is a seasonal virus that disproportionately harms the elderly and especially the elderly with pre-existing conditions. If the goal is zero Covid, this is never going to end. The logical conclusion to the current strategy is that the state requires masks indoors during cold/flu season for the foreseeable future. As Mayor Johnson said, it's time to move on.

I'm asking on the behalf of thousands of Plainfield residents that value choice, liberty and freedom that you do the following:
1.) Unmask our kids:

• I understand you do not oversee the schoolboard, but you certainly have influence in your position.
• Children are statistical outliers for every metric related to Covid-19.
• The idea that the masks are not damaging kids is absurd. The masks are worn out of fear and kids are being taught to be scared of Covid. There are plenty of things we should protect our kids from, Covid is not one of them.
• Parents now have the option to vaccinate their kids if they choose to do so.

2.) Drop the mask mandate and make masks optional for Plainfield's businesses and residents:

• Businesses will make the choice for themselves, as will their patrons.

• Remove the burden to act independently and free your residents minds to make their own decisions without feeling they are breaking the law. Many of us are already choosing not to comply.
• Make it easier for others to free themselves of masks.

You ran your campaign on doing what is best for all Plainfield residents, making masks optional in Plainfield does just that. Freedom and Liberty allows the people to choose what is best for them and you to hold true to your campaign promises.
