Gas Price Update: Plainfield Prices Continue Falling

PLAINFIELD, IL — Feeling slight pain when looking at prices per gallon of gas has become the new normal as of late. But as high as prices are, they continue to fall, even if only little by little.

While prices in Illinois remain high, the average price for gas is $5.10 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. That's 16 cents cheaper than a week ago and about 30 cents less than when Patch last reported on gas prices.

At around $5.29 per gallon in Will County, gas prices were significantly above the state average.

The national average has also fallen to $4.63 as of Wednesday. And despite an increase in demand — especially around the July 4 holiday — pump prices have declined.

"Usually, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices," Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement Monday. "But the price for oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, has fallen and is hovering around $100 a barrel. Less expensive oil usually means less expensive gas."

With prices still as high as they are, it helps to know which station to visit to save a little. As of Wednesday, some prices in Plainfield are even back below $5.

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Plainfield is selling for $4.89 per gallon at Mobil, 14808 S. Route 59. Here is what other stations around town are charging:
