Hawk Subaru and Subaru Ambassadors "Love the Earth"

Through Subaru’s Love Promise®, Hawk Subaru and Subaru Ambassadors acted on Earth Day, April 22, 2023, by partnering with Subies of the Corn to collect and recycle 4,942 plastic grocery bags during the Subaru Loves the Earth® Stuff-a-Solterra event.

Subaru Ambassadors J. Mykel Hill, Christine Hill, Robert Barton, Eddie Groberski, and Viridiana Esparza, along with members of Subies of the Corn, coordinated with Hawk Subaru to collect and recycle plastic grocery and shopping bags. These hard to recycle items are not accepted through standard recycling outlets and the Stuff-a-Solterra event was held to drive awareness and help reduce/eliminate single-use items.

Subies of the Corn worked with TerraCycle to recycle the collected plastic bags. Subies of the Corn purchased three (3) of the TerraCycle Plastic Grocery and Shopping Bags - Zero Waste Boxes™ to ship and recycle the collected plastic bags. Since 2001, TerraCycle has specialized in Recycling the Unrecyclable and has a partnership with Subaru of America.

Subies of the Corn Co-Founder and Subaru Ambassador J. Mykel Hill stated “After seeing the abundance of plastic bags littering the medians along I-55, we knew that it was extremely important to bring awareness to the concerns of single-use plastic bags. Earth Day was our opportunity to showcase how Subaru Loves the Earth® and events like this demonstrate how Subaru is more than just a car brand.”

All attendees donating plastic bags received Subaru Recycled Laminated Grocery Totes, courtesy of Hawk Subaru and Subaru Ambassadors. The grocery totes are made from at least 90% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, keeping with the Subaru Loves the Earth Love Promise.

Hawk Subaru provided test drives of the 2023 Subaru Solterra, which is The First All-Electric SUV with Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Taquerias Atotonilco was onsite, serving tacos to the event attendees, courtesy of Hawk Subaru.

Subies of the Corn (SOTC) is a Subaru-based car club located in the southern Chicago suburbs, which focuses on charitable events that align with the Subaru Love Promise.
