Illinois Winter Storm Impacts Metra Schedules

The BNSF is operating on an alternate schedule due to heavy snow.

Heavy snowfall — expected to be the heaviest accumulation since more than 19 inches of snow fell on Super Bowl Sunday 2015 — has forced flight cancellations, business and school closings and shifted trash pickup day for some. The winter storm is also impacting travel for commuters. Metra on Thursday warned riders to anticipate delays, and is operating an alternate schedule on the BNSF line, which runs to Aurora.

Metra advised BNSF riders to check the updated schedule for Feb. 9, available online.

All riders should check Metra for service updates prior to heading to the train station, since winter weather could create delays.

"Metra will make every effort to provide a timely and comfortable commute," the company said Thursday. "Unfortunately, weather conditions beyond our control could disrupt service and delay your train. Please allow extra travel time to get to and from your destination. We regret any weather-related delays and we appreciate your patience. Please refer to Service Updates for line-specific information."
