Melissa McCarthy, Colbert Preview Plainfield Community Calendar

The Plainfield native/Emmy winner and the talk show host discussed items from the Plainfield chamber of commerce calendar.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Melissa McCarthy has never been shy about giving her hometown a shoutout. Back in 2011, the actress mentioned the village in her Emmy acceptance speech and previously confessed to basing her character on hit show "Mike & Molly" on a teacher she had at St. Mary's.

Most recently, she stopped by "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" to promote her new movie, "Life of the Party" and while she was at it, she promoted some community calendar items from the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce and nearby Naper Settlement.

"You know what we say in Will County, you will love it here," McCarthy said during the segment.

Events highlighted by the two comedians included next month's WYSK Wine Walk in downtown Plainfield and ribbon cuttings for new businesses including Slim Chickens, plus Naper Settlement's Civil War Days, set for next weekend.

The Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce shared a link to the clip on its Facebook page, saying, "We love all the Plainfield Area Chamber of Commerce events being used!"

But some residents who commented on the post weren't fans of the bit.

"Actually, the skit showed Plainfield's 'Community Access Channel' as being PRETTY LAME and frankly boring," one person wrote. "Ok, there was some highlighted events, but the skit basically showed Plainfield as a somewhat backward thinking community."

Others took it all in stride.

"It was all in good fun. It would not have kept me from enjoying the events," another person wrote.
