Metropolitan Youth Symphony announces Student Composition Competition

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) is proud to announce a call for new youth orchestra works written by composers enrolled in high school, an undergraduate, or a graduate degree program. The winning work will be performed by MYSO in the spring 2024 concert season.

Submission deadline is November 15, 2023, and the results will be announced in January.

MYSO welcomes young musicians to explore and develop their talents through musical expression. Together, we foster a life-long love of music for our performers and the diverse communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from Joliet and 21 surrounding communities as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.

MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening from September through May at Lewis University (Romeoville, IL). MYSO currently has immediate openings in the viola, string bass, clarinet and percussion sections.
