Metropolitan Youth Symphony to feature Concerto Winner Graham Miller
Plainfield South Senior & Trombonist Graham Miller will perform his winning concerto at Lewis University on March 1, 2023
The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform on Wednesday evening March 1, 2023 at 7:30 at Lewis University. Pay-What-You-Wish Donations are accepted online and at the door. The concert will also be live-streamed.
The "Memorable Medleys, Marches & Ballets" concert features a 50-piece orchestra under the direction of Peter Lipari. Maestro Lipari is the Director of Orchestras at Joliet Township High School and Music Director of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Singers, and Festival Orchestra.
The concert program will feature MYSO Trombonist Graham Miller, the 2023 Recipient of MYSO's Student Concerto Competition. He will be performing Rimsky-Korsakov's Trombone Concerto.

Graham Miller is a senior at Plainfield South High School. Along with MYSO, he’s a member of the PSHS marching band, jazz band, pep band, pit orchestra, wind ensemble, acapella ensemble, and choral winds. He was selected for the ILMEA District 9 Orchestra in 2021 and 2022, the ILMEA District 9 Jazz Band 1 in 2022, the Elmhurst Midwest Honor Band in 2023, and the SPC honor band in 2020-2023.
Graham has played trombone for 7 years, and he’s studied with Scott Hawkins from Shadow Drum and Bugle Corps and Achilles Liarmakopoulos from Canadian Brass. His favorite thing about music is the impact it has on his life; it’s an instant motivator, an instant good time, and an instant icebreaker all in one. In his free time, Graham is a member of the PSHS chess, math, and scholastic bowl teams, and he teaches private trombone lessons.

The concert will also include pieces from ballets and orchestral marches: Berlioz's Hungarian March, Profiev's March and Scherzo from the ballet Love for Three Oranges, Copland's Rodeo of Hoe Down, the Titanic Medley by Horner, and Coleridge-Taylor's Hiawatha Suite.
MYSO rehearses every Wednesday evening that school is in session from 6:15 to 8:45 at Lewis University. The orchestra currently has openings in their clarinet, oboe, percussion and string sections. For more concert and audition information, visit www.mysomusic.org.
