Metropolitan Youth Symphony hosts Free 65th Anniversary Concert

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform its 65th Anniversary Concert on Wednesday May 1, 2024 at 7:30 in the St. Charles Borromeo Convocation Hall at Lewis University (101 W. Airport Rd, Romeoville). Admission is free with donations accepted online and at the door.

Under the direction of Peter Lipari, the celebratory concert will include the 2024 Student Composition Recipient Yeeun Sim's Song of the Wind, a world premiere of Mike McFerron's Concert Fanfare and special performances by MYSO Alumni which includes the exciting finale of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 4.

Audience members are invited to attend a post-concert reception in the Flight Deck Cafeteria, just steps away from the concert hall. Guests will enjoy light refreshments, music by Flute Salad, raffle basket prizes and mingling with our composers.

Founded in 1959 the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra has resided in Will County since 1991 with a mission of “welcoming young musicians to explore and develop their talents through musical expression. Together, we foster a life-long love of music for our performers and the diverse communities in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.” Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from Joliet and 21 surrounding communities as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College. MYSO currently serves 58 youth musicians during its 2023-2024 Season throughout the southwest suburbs.
