The gourd, recognized by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, smashed the previous Illinois record by 347 pounds and puts Plainfield in the spotlight for giant pumpkin growing.

Drive-Thru Cannabis Could Be Coming To Plainfield (patch.com) — Plainfield medical cannabis patients now have a new option as Terrabis begins serving registered users at its Route 59 dispensary and pursues approvals for a future drive‑thru in the village. The company, which started in Missouri and expanded recreational sales to Plainfield in 2024, is broadening medical access under updated Illinois rules.

Hit By Cars And Stranded By A Rising River, Bear Somehow Made It Home (patch.com) — Plainfield neighbors rallied to help find Bear, a skittish rescue golden retriever who bolted from his family's downtown home and was twice hit by cars before becoming trapped in the rising DuPage River. After days of searching, Bear's owner's father swam through dangerous floodwaters to free him, and the dog is now recovering at home.
