Plainfield 19-Year-Old Charged With Sex Abuse

The charges stem from accusations of a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A 19-year-old Plainfield man faces misdemeanor charges of criminal sexual abuse stemming from an alleged relationship with a younger teen. Geovanni A. Delgado, of the 14000 block of Isle Royal Circle, was taken into custody Wednesday, months after the 14-year-old girl's parents contacted the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the parents contacted police in August 2017 over concerns about the age difference between the couple. Police said the sexual relationship had been ongoing for at least two months at that point.

Hoffmeyer said investigators spoke with both the girl and Delgado, who was initially released pending completion of the investigation.

A warrant for Delgado's arrest was issued May 4, Hoffmeyer said.

The arrest isn't Delgado's first brush with the law. In February 2017, the teen was charged with assault. Those charges were dropped in September after he completed the H.E.A.R.T. (Helping, Enriching, Advising, Reaching and Teaching) program, but a month later, Delgado was charged with violating an order of protection after having been barred from contacting an 18-year-old Plainfield woman. Delgado pleaded guilty in February 2018 and was sentenced to 58 days in jail, though he was given credit for 29 days already served, according to Will County court records.

Delgado's bond in the new charges was set at $15,000, according to jail records. He remained in custody as of late Thursday morning, with a court appearance set for the afternoon.
