Plainfield Man Posed As Cop At Prison: Police

The 29-year-old was arrested on Friday at Stateville. According to LinkedIn, he is employed as a correctional officer.

CREST HILL, IL — A man with a Plainfield mailing address is facing several felonies — including impersonating an officer and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon — after he was arrested Friday. Rafael Vazquez Jr., 29, of the 7000 block of Briarcliff Drive, was also charged with aggravated assault.

Jail records show that Vazquez was able to post 10 percent of his $20,000 bond and was released on Saturday afternoon.

The Joliet Herald-News reported that Vazquez was arrested at Stateville Correctional Center. Joliet Police failed to return messages or respond to questions about the specifics of his March 30 arrest, according to the paper.

According to a LinkedIn page for Rafael Vazquez Jr., he is employed as a correctional officer and attended the now-closed ITT Technical Institute in Oak Brook. The page says he has been employed with the Illinois Department of Corrections since July 2017.

Jail and court records do not show any prior arrests for Vazquez in Will County.
