Plainfield PD Memorial Day Enforcement Yields 193 Tickets

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police issued a total of 193 citations during their Memorial Day "Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign.

The effort, targeting seat belt usage, began May 19 and lasted until May 30, the day after Memorial Day was observed, police announced Tuesday.

Police also apprehended one fugitive and arrested one person for driving under the influence and two for driving with revoked or suspended licenses.

Comparatively, officers issued 312 tickets during its month-long campaign in April, designated Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Patch reported.

In Illinois, the compliance rate for seat belt usage is currently 93 percent, and unbelted occupants continue to account for more than half of people killed in car crashes, according to police.

"Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, we helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts and child safety restraints save lives," police said in a news release.
