Plainfield Police Look To Reduce Crashes With Christmas, NYE Campaign

It's that time again: Plainfield police will kick off another enforcement campaign for the holidays.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police are kicking off their final enforcement campaign of the year on Friday.

The holiday "Click It or Ticket" effort will run through Jan. 1. Plainfield officers are joining Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement agencies with the goal to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by crashes, and proper seat belt use is the most effective way to achieve that, according to a news release.

Currently, Illinois's statewide seat belt usage rate is 92.9 percent, and police say there's room for improvement.

"As people head to holiday celebrations, there will be more vehicles on the road and an increased risk of crashes," officials said. "No matter how long or short you drive, remember to buckle up and make sure children are in a safe seat."

During Plainfield police's last enforcement, which ran from Nov. 17-26, officers issued a total of 173 tickets, including 76 related to seat belt usage, Patch reported.
