Plainfield South Football Players Take Knee During National Anthem

PLAINFIELD, IL — A photo shows some players on the Plainfield South High School football team taking a knee during the national anthem Friday night.
The photo was retweeted by Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers who refused to stand for the national anthem.

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick said in an NFL.com article. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

A Plainfield School District 202 spokesperson told CBS Chicago that the players have a right to their views.
