Weeks after teachers sounded off on their ever-increasing workload, saying their compensation has failed to keep pace, the Association of Plainfield Teachers (APT) said it is still in talks with District 202.
APT President Dawn Bullock said union reps have set three new dates to return to the bargaining table: Nov. 19, Dec. 4 and Dec. 10.

The negotiations continue nearly a year after they began, despite several sessions with a federal mediator and a tentative new contract that was approved by APT and district representatives, only to be voted down by teachers.
The three-year deal failed to pass by a vote of 965-737 last month.

Teachers have been working without a contract since August.
Bullock said workload, uneven student distribution among classes and compensation were among key issues behind teachers’ decision to reject the contract.
