Plainfield Tornado Documentary to Screen at Joliet Junior College

The screening is a part of the college's fourth annual JJC Film Festival, which is free and open to the public.

JOLIET, IL — A documentary about the Plainfield tornado will make its premiere Oct. 15 at Joliet Junior College.

“Eight Minutes in August: The F-5 Plainfield Tornado of 1990” tells the story of a tornado that struck Plainfield, Crest Hill and Joliet, ravaging the communities, taking the lives of 29 residents and leaving hundreds seriously injured. With commentary from WGN Chief Meteorologist, Tom Skilling, and others who were immediately impacted by this unprecedented event, this documentary includes an impressive array of archival footage and photographs. The Fine Arts Department is joining the Joliet Area Historical Museum in providing the first public screening of this film in its entirety.

Also screening is “Being There” at 10:30 a.m. and “The Danish Girl” at 1:30 p.m. "Eight Minutes in August" will screen at 4:30 p.m. All films will be shown on Saturday, Oct. 15.
