Zero Tolerance For Fireworks In Plainfield: Police
Leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals this 4th of July, police say.

PLAINFIELD, IL — With Independence Day only a couple weeks away, the Plainfield Police Department would like to remind all village residents that fireworks are illegal in the Village. Fireworks are dangerous and contribute to hundreds of injures each year across our country. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 11 fireworks related deaths in 2015 and an estimated 11,900 injuries. Over 8,000 of these injuries occurred between June 19th and July 19th, 2015.
Our village Fireworks and Explosives Ordinance prohibit the sale, possession, use and discharge of fireworks or other explosives. Plainfield Police will have officers assigned to fireworks complaints this holiday season. Anyone who violates the ordinance should expect to receive a $100.00 citation and have their fireworks confiscated. The holding of public fireworks displays is also prohibited. Authorization for public fireworks displays may only be granted to licensed pyro technicians through the Plainfield Fire Protection District. This Fourth of July season, we strongly encourage everyone to leave the fireworks to the professionals and attend a properly licensed, professional fireworks show. We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.
